Description

Product Characteristics: T helper cells are a sub-group of lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell, that play an important role in establishing and maximizing the capabilities of the immune system. These cells are unusual in that they have no cytotoxic or phagocytic activity, they cannot kill infected host cells (also known as somatic cells) or pathogens, and without other immune cells they would usually be considered useless against an infection. Th cells are involved in activating and directing other immune cells, and are particularly important in the immune system. Mature Th cells are believed to always express the surface protein CD4. Synonyms: Polyclonal CD4 antibody, Anti-CD4 antibody, L3T4 antibody, CD4 Antigen antibody included antibody, L3T4 antibody, Lymphocyte Antigen CD4 antibody, MGC165891 antibody, T Cell Antigen T4 antibody, T cell Antigen T4/LEU3 antibody, T cell differentiation Antigen L3T4 antibody, T cell OKT4 deficiency, included antibody, T cell surface Antigen T4 (FITC), T Cell Surface Glycoprotein CD4 antibody, T-cell surface glycoprotein CD4 antibody.
Target Information: This gene encodes a membrane glycoprotein of T lymphocytes that interacts with major histocompatibility complex class II antigenes and is also a receptor for the human immunodeficiency virus. This gene is expressed not only in T lymphocytes, but also in B cells, macrophages, and granulocytes. It is also expressed in specific regions of the brain. The protein functions to initiate or augment the early phase of T-cell activation, and may function as an important mediator of indirect neuronal damage in infectious and immune-mediated diseases of the central nervous system. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified in this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2010]
